I've been telling everyone I'm pulling for USAUSA instead of Engurland, though frankly I'm neutral for this one. Thought I was going to get beaten up last night, by my mate's wife (a Geordie, but I told her I'd thought she was a jock so didn't care), told her I couldn't support any team with GBH in it.

Re: World Cup Travelblog
England looked pretty ordinary to me.
On the plus side tho I've down 8 teams in Trebles - 2 out of 2 so far with the South Koreans winning (15/8.) and the Argies (4/9). Hoping to celebrate a bit of a profit by the end of Round 1 of games.

I agree. Better than the US? Yes, but if they want to go far they need to be a lot better. Play like that against any top team in the knock out stages and they can check out of the hotel.Toffee Dan wrote:England looked pretty ordinary to me.

Re: World Cup Travelblog
I realise the World Cup comes right at the end of a long season and also that some key players are/became injured - Ferdinand is a big loss to the back - then having to play King (and, worse still, old slow Bollox Carragher) - then the loss of Milner will have reduced the options Capello had in this game. I didn't see the first half but, AFAIK England were the better side - but, typically, didn't kill the game off. On the evidence of the 2nd half, with Gerrard doing his usual disappearing act, Lampard spraying wasteful balls around, lightweight players like Lennon and Shite-Phillips on the pitch, not to mention Emile Grasssniffer we really shouldn't expect too much. Still Old-Geriatics and Slovenly await so we must have half a chance of getting through.
Seems to me Crapello has picked one or two too many oldies and too many 'flair' players who can't do the basics. This high-tempo stuff is all very well in the Premier League where the opposition are going to be cowered by the sheer strength of the opponents but it won't work against decent and/or workmanlike International sides.
I never professed to thinking we'd go that far in this competition so if we duck out a little bit too early for our liking then so be it. There are at least half a dozen teams better than us so it's going to take a lot of good fortune to get past some of them in the coming weeks.

Re: World Cup Travelblog
Not getting out of that group would be embarassing to be honest. I can't see England not getting out of that group, and I think you'll win the group since you have more fire power up front than US (who I think will also advance from that group).Toffee Dan wrote:I realise the World Cup comes right at the end of a long season and also that some key players are/became injured - Ferdinand is a big loss to the back - then having to play King (and, worse still, old slow Bollox Carragher) - then the loss of Milner will have reduced the options Capello had in this game. We were better than the US but their centreback can't even get a new contract at Watford. That gives you an idea of their strength in depth.

With the easiest group bar the Argies maybe I thought start Hart then at least if England go further hes already got three games under his belt which would make like easier.
