Everton raised 1million by selling Lucas Neill to Galatasaray and also cut their wage bill by offloading him and Jo, and that has freed up the cash to make the bid for highly-rated Beckford.

Otherwise we'd have nothing.

We have a million times more than any football fan - We are Everton and getting rid of 1 x Aussie freeloader, 1 x Brazilian freeloader and swapping them for a Swiss international and someone who looks like they actually give a shit sounds like very, very good business, to me?

Beckford (again

Post  Mr_Ben on Sun 11 Apr 2010, 1:20 pm

Everton manager David Moyes is weighing up a summer move for Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford.
Full story: News of the World

MOYES PREPARED TO GAMBLE ON BECKFORD
Leeds striker is Toffees target

BECKFORD: Leeds hitman
10/04/2010

DAVID MOYES is willing to take a gamble on Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford.

The Everton manager wants to add more firepower to his squad this summer - and the 26-year-old is available on a free transfer.

Beckford handed in a transfer request after scoring the winner against Manchester United in the FA Cup third round at Old Trafford.

Moyes has been monitoring his form and Everton will offer the forward a route into the Premier League.

Beckford handed in a transfer request at Elland Road after scoring against United, but withdrew it before the end of the January window.

He agreed to stay at Leeds until the summer, but Simon Grayson has accepted that he is on his way.

Bit similar to Vaughan isn't he (apart from the injuries)? If it's true, it looks like JV is on his way.

Vaughan came on for Leicester against Posh yesterday for the final 30 mins. Had about one chance, but did nothing else.

Would be a strange appointment all round. I would have throught he would want to play regular football, which I cant see him getting at Goodison and I thought we would want to use the wage buget to strengthen our first choice XI, which Beckford wouldnt do. I can see him being 3rd choice striker at best which isnt good when we normally only play with one up top.

Good point Dixie, it would be a strange choice for the player albeit i think if he gets decent service he will score.

We can sell him to Galatasaray for 2m in January anyway.

Scored for fun at Leeds for the first half of the season, then after getting winner against Man Utd in the FA Cup handed in a transfer request. Don't know how he has faired over the 2nd half of the season, is out of contract at the end of season, so wouldn't demand a transfer fee.

Would be a Vaughan replacement, but not sure he would get many games. Think he would be good in the Championship and that is all.

Cheers Super. I guess we are looking at the future here. Saha is getting up there, as it Cahill. Vaughan is injured a lot. Yak is.... 28....?..... 33......?.... 54......?

I can understand the manager not playing him for many reasons, but it seems a bit of a risk to totally ignore him when they're trying for promotion etc.
