If he was out for 6 months, there would be an official statement from EFC and the England manager, the later stating he would still have a chance for SA 2010 World Cup

from last february's guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/feb/20/premier-league-team-news

Midfielder Tim Cahill and right-back Tony Hibbert are both suspended after reaching five bookings for the season while Marouane Fellaini [back], Leon Osman [stomach] and Steven Pienaar [hamstring] are unlikely to feature.

sounds like its referring to last season

I think you are right Sacko. There is a story on the OS that he is not able to take part in the River Plate game. Im sure the story might have mentioned that he also wont be able to take part in any game until Feb if that was the case.

Spoke to Iain Turner at Southport (Ressies won 1-0 today). "I don't know anything about that" he said..

Who else played today Dan?

Were Baxter and Wallace there or are they over in the US?

Squad for tonight v River Plate

Squad: Carlo Nash, Tim Howard, Tony Hibbert, Phil Neville, Leighton Baines, Joleon Lescott, Joseph Yobo, Jack Rodwell, James Wallace, Jose Baxter, Jo, Tim Cahill, Steven Pienaar, Louis Saha, James Vaughan, Marouane Fellaini

We desperately need to strengthen as if we start the season with that we are screwed.

Don't get me wrong our first XI is ok but beyond that we will struggle

Osman can't be out for 6 months - he was in the commentary box as he wasn't "fit enough to take part" - not the words suggesting "out for 6 months"

Reserve side at Southport:
Turner (did ok), Zac Thompson, Luke Garbutt (looked ok), James McGarten, Shane Duffy, Anton Peterlin (looked decent enough), Adam Foshaw, Hope Akpan, Nathan Craig (scored), Kieran Agard, Jutki ("my name is Lukas, I play for the 2nd team") (capt.)

Subs: Lewis Codling, Skhrodan Mustafi, Connor McAleny, James Lawrie

I missed 15 minutes of the second half cos one of the subs warming up in the 2nd half aimed a shot at goal and hit me - full on the hand, knocking the drink Ian had just bought me right out my hand. My ("Stevie Me's" - Right hand) knuckles started to bruise so went to get first aid - was fine after 10 mins (still minor pain now but I'm sure I'll be fine). Funny it was - got a sort of apology and told him the target was slightly to his right!

I don't remember any rumours about him leaving. He played OK yesterday, scored a cracker and was the best of a bad bunch. The case remains we need to improve on him in the long-term, but he is a worthy squad member.

Finally got some decent competition for the rb slot, so he knows he needs to be playing well to stay in the side. Last season Jacobsen was injuried for the majority of the season and Pip was always going to play in midfield before Moyes might play him at rb, so Hibbert has had it easy over the past couple of seasons. Now we have Heitinga who could easily play there and Neill who must be knocking on the door for a starting role.
