That's the thing really. They're both good premiership players, but when we come up against real quality opposition their weaknesses get exposed and then we say "They're shite, not good enough". When what we really mean is they're not good enough to trouble the top 4 and we're frustrated we can't make that mythical, magical "Step up" to compete with them.

i dont think i've ever heard a rumour about him leaving - or hibbert.

i like osman, good squad player, and more than capable against the bottom 13 or 14 premiership teams.

I think the same about Osman. I see no reason why he cant stay at Everton for the rest of his career as a squad player. He's goes totally missing though against the big teams and I feel we need better in his position if we are to push on upwards.

Surprise choice as captain for me as he's a quiet lad. Cahill was deserving of the arm band in my opinion for what he's done for us over the past 5 years.

Ossie will be quality for us in europe over the next few seasons. Given the slower pace of the european game, he'll get more time on the ball, and that'll bring out the best in him.

Gosling on Ossie & Wolves...

Post  Super on Tue 13 Oct 2009, 10:32 am

Dan Gosling says stand-in skipper Leon Osman has been the inspiration for Everton's good form. Osman skippered the Blues in wins over Hull, BATE Borisov and in the draw with Stoke City. And Gosling, who scored against the Tigers, explained that Osman is every bit as meticulous as Phil Neville and Joesph Yobo when handed the armband. Gosling also revealed his admiration for temporary skipper Leon Osman. The 28-year-old midfielder has a 100 per cent winning record since taking the armband.
"He's been here since a young lad so he knows the ins and outs of the whole club," he explained. "He prepares everyone just like (Phil Neville) Nev and (Joseph) Yobo. So it's been a bit strange having three captains already this season, but they are all top lads. Ossie has got three out of three as captain and also scored a couple of goals, so he's proving himself pretty good with the armband and long may it continue for him."
Gosling watched from the bench as Everton were held to a 1-1 draw by Stoke at Goodison Park last time out. And with newly promoted Wolves next up for the Toffees, the midfielder warns that Mick McCarthy's side won't be seen as a soft touch.
The ex-Plymouth man knows all about visiting striker Sylvain Ebanks-Blake but is remaining patient in his ongoing quest for first team action. "Stoke have bought very well and they've cemented themselves as a Premier League team. I think they will finish mid-table or thereabouts," observed Gosling. "As for Wolves, they've got a few very good players there; they've started the season okay and got points on the board. "This season gets tougher every season with the money coming in from overseas, clubs spending a lot of money on players and the squads getting bigger. There are no 'gimmes' in this league anymore."
After a breakthrough campaign last season, capped by that derby goal, Gosling has had to bide his time this time around. I've had a taste for it now, I just want to have more success, play more games and do whatever I can really," he continued. "With such a small squad, nine times out of ten you involved every Saturday and every chance you get you just want to impress. I've had a run out in the Europa League and hopefully I've done myself and the team justice. Every chance I get to play, I just want to do alright."
Gosling has developed significantly since moving from Plymouth in January 2007 - but he remembers playing with one of Mick McCarthy's squad during his time at Home Park. "I had time with Sylvain Ebanks-Blake at Plymouth, Ian Holloway took him there," he explained. "He did very well and got his move to Wolves and I think he got Championship Player of the Year last season - he was definitely top scorer in the league. "This season, he's started with a few injuries but I'm sure when he gets back to full fitness he will be a real threat for them, hopefully he will get the goals that keeps Wolves up."
The England Under-19 youngster is confident that the Toffees' newly-bolstered back-line is equipped to cope with any physical battle that may arise against ex-Man United trainee Ebanks-Blake and his Molineux teammates.
"Sylvain (Distin) and Johnny Heitinga proved against Stoke last week how good they are in the aerial battle with their forwards and they coped with all the long-throws very well," continued Gosling. "Again, if they are on top of their game against Wolves, it should be a good day for us."
