It was reported earlier in the season that the Toffees had also secured an agreement with Leeds United to sign Jermaine Beckford at the end of the season. Should either or both young strikers complete moves to Goodison Park they could represent something of a coup for David Moyes with the esteemed coach once again working his magic in the transfer market despite limited funds.

Beckford is nearly 27????

Everton are interested in signing Portuguese strike prodigy Joao Silva for £650,000. The Portugal Under-20 international is top scorer in the Portuguese second division with 10 goals for Desportivo das Aves and has caught the attention of several English clubs. Aves president Joao Freitas travelled to England last week to hold talks with Everton officials. Freitas said: 'I was in England for a couple of days to find out about a concrete offer. 'We have great confidence in the playerís quality and potential. There are several offers from English clubs. Nothing has been decided yet.' Silva said: 'I didnít expect things to happen so quickly. Iíve had chances and Iím very happy with what Iíve done. 'If I go for 700,000 euros, like they say, it would be good income for the club and Iíd be happy about it.'

29: Joao Silva - The Next Pauleta?

Everton grab new Pauleta
Joao Silva on his way to Goodison
By Francisco Acedo & Graeme Bailey Last updated: 28th April 2010

Everton have sealed a deal for Portuguese starlet Joao Silva, who has been described as the new Pauleta.

The 19-year-old youth international is currently with Desportivo Aves, who play in Portugal's second division.

Silva has had an excellent maiden campaign and has scored 13 goals, which has led to a number of clubs chasing him.

But Everton have agreed terms on a deal worth around £500,000, with Silva due to move to Goodison Park at the end of the season and he is delighted with the chance.

"I am calm and working for my club now, but I am happy because to play in the Premier League is a dream for any footballer because it is the best in the world," he said.

"Everton are a great club, I have seen them on television and they have great players.

"Due to my own characteristics, I believe it [England] will be perfect for me - it will be an enormous move for me but I am ambitious and will stay positive."

Pauleta
Silva has been dubbed the new Pauleta, not just because of their similar physique and play, but also because he came through the lower leagues in Portugal, rather than from one of the big clubs.

"It is a coincidence and an honour to be compared to Pauleta," he said.

The 'old' Pauletta stats

Looks like Joao will be great when we sell him to a French team and when on international duty.
