Last season Silva was the second top scorer in the Liga Vitalis, Portugal's second tier.

The 6'2" forward scored 14 goals in 32 appearances for Aves last term, which was his first season since graduating to the professional ranks.

Silva has played for his country's Under-20 side and is highly rated in his homeland.

got high hopes that he'll fulfil his potential here, the second tier in Portugal may not be the highest standard but to finish second top scorer in his first professional season is still some achievement. lets hope he settles well and we see what he's about in the pre season games.

Too true. If he's getting some experience through playing time, fine, but we ought to be able to tell if he's going to make it by now. If he's not, time to get off the books.

looks like he'll make it from what I've seen of him for portugal U21's but like pretty much all 21 year old's I wouldn't hold much hope for him scoring a hatfull if asked to lead the line in the premierleague, how many 21 year old strikers are destroying experineced premier league centre backs? lets not put too much pressure on our Kids, we look to have a decent group of young lads on the books at the moment but they don't have the experience which will come with coaching, a good pre season and getting introduced to the league slowly.

peoples expectations seem to have been warped by Rooney. remember Rooney had 3-4 years experience in the prem by the time he was 21 and had come through years of being coached in the uk so was already aware of the english way of playing. Not forgetting that Rooney was a special talent.

I agree with all of that. I was getting more to that by the age of 21 we ought to know if a player will be a Prem player one day. Might not happen for another year or three, but that's a different story.

Scored a last minute winner for his loan side, Vitoria Setubal (putting them top of the league). If he has a good season he may be worth a few bob at the end of it which might be worth taking, doesn't look like he's going to be hitting Everton's first team any time soon.

Re: 29: Joao Silva - The Next Pauleta (no!)

Post  Made 4 Gwladys on Sun 02 Oct 2011, 1:40 pm

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_7217762,00.html

Joao Silva is determined to find regular football and admits he would be willing to leave Everton in order to get games.

The Portuguese youngster is yet to force his way into the senior set-up at Goodison Park.
He was snapped up from CD Alves last year and arrived in England with a glowing reputation.

The highly-rated striker is still waiting for his first-team bow, though, and took in a loan spell at Uniao Leiria last term.

With opportunities still limited with the Toffees, he has returned to Portugal again this season with Vitoria Setubal.

Confidence

Silva is tied into a three-year deal at Everton, but claims he will look for a permanent move elsewhere if David Moyes continues to overlook him.

"I will consider leaving Everton if I receive assurances of first-team football elsewhere," he said.

"Everton are a big club but I need playing time and a club that has confidence in me and gives me opportunities."

Reports suggest Benfica are closely monitoring Silva's situation and could be tempted to make a move.

He never made it.

Not going to be returning to Everton. Either his contract will be terminated or his contract will be allowed to run down while he is on loan.

Everton are expected to sell striker Joao Silva, 21, this month - with clubs in Romania queuing up to sign the striker. The Romanian transfer window does not close until the middle of February.
