His positioning was pretty good tonight and had he not suffered a knee injury last season, Stubbsy said he would have been in and around the squad right now, ala Rodwell and Gosling.

didn't he play in our 5-0 at benfica? I thought it was him who was afault for virtually all their goals? scratch

Yeah he played left back that evening.

He did, but he played out of position at left back and it was Gosling on the right who got flayed for most of their goals. I actually thought he did ok in that game considering it was against an incredible attacking side and it was his debut and he was playing out of position.

Sure they got the better of him a good few times, but the whole team were bested that night. He was far from the worst.

Re: 23: Seamus Coleman - Sligo's overpriced superstar

Post  Albert on Thu 03 Dec 2009, 12:32 pm

I thought he was poor last night. good at tackling and looked like he had potential going forward but got caught on the wrong side of his man a lot of times and also the ball frequently flew over his head where he had misjudged the flight of the ball.

He's got a lot to learn before he is first team standard.

Also poor last night - Bily. His lack of movement and tracking back gave Baines nothing to pass to (resulting in Baines being poor distribution wise). Also, Bily was very weak on the ball, and slow when he had it.

Great win though.

Grauniad play-by-play

38 mins
"Amazing," parps Simon Rouse. "I just checked
wikipedia for Seamus Coleman and already the last line is 'Coleman made
his premier league home debut at Goodison Park on the 6th December 2009
against Tottenham Hotspur coming on for the injured Joseph Yobo'. Who
does this?" It's troubling isn't it? How long before Wikipedia just
starts predicting the future?

COLEMEN...

Guys, I don't support everton, but I was supporting them today (Guess which club I support?)

Anyway, this young kid Colemen, why have Everton been hiding him??? HE was Amazing! He was easily the best player on the pitch. I BET HE'LL BE PLAYING FOR ENGLAND WITHIN THE NEXT 2 YEARS!!! He has pace, good reading of the game, great delivery. Had a hand in both the goals.

Man of the match, spurs nearly used all their full backs to cope with him.

I know it's early days, but if we had a pacey right winger in front of that lad, the balance in the team would be instant.

What's the rule on someone who's played Under 21's for their country?

I had a look on the FIFA website but I couldn't find the rule.

pretty sure they can change, through residency or if they already have a legit connection (parent, grandparent) but I don't think Coleman has any english connection at all.....

Ryan Giggs / Wilson played for the England U18s, but the Welsh national side. It's kind of academic anyway, when the guy isn't English!
