Given our injury problems I'd be tempted to keep him.

Not a bad deal for Fulham. He's not a bad player.

He obviously wasn't part of Roberto's plans. He was very good for us albeit at times quite a let down. However I do think he would do well at a club like Fulham.

Re: 5: Johnny Heitinga -"proud Evertonian"

Post  Super on Fri 10 Feb 2017, 9:06 am

Former Everton star Johnny Heitinga has mourned that he can't afford private jets and personal shoppers now he's hung up his boots. The defender has put himself up for ridicule in his native Holland after lamenting the loss of luxuries he'd grown accustomed to as a professional footballer. Heitinga retired at the end last season while playing for Ajax, the club where his career began, and he's detailed how tough the adjustment has been.

"When I was still playing football we had a lot more money coming in. Our expenditures were likewise. Now we are trying to adjust," the 33-year-old Dutchman said in an interview with 1limburg.

Heitinga said he and his wife Charlotte-Sophie - the sister of another former Premier League player Boudewijn Zenden - miss their luxury travel in particular. He said: "In the past, we sometimes chartered a private jet, but we don't do that now. On holidays we do still rent a fancy villa, but you get different categories of 'fancy'." "We are trying to get used to it. Sometimes it is difficult," Charlotte-Sophie bemoaned.

In the past Heitinga said a stylist would dictate the couple's wardrobe but now are forced to find their own clothes. "We could not easily go to Paris, Milan or New York back then for shopping," added Charlotte-Sophie in explanation. There is an upside to their newfound independence though, Johnny said: "[Our stylist Danie Bles] would do it for us. But we are now having fun doing it ourselves!"

Heitinga retired last year and immediately took up a role on the coaching staff at Ajax, where he returned as much out of devotion to the club as another job having returned there to finish his career. He retired prematurely after two Eredivisie appearances off the bench in a season-long deal. On hanging up his boots, aged 32, he said: "My ultimate desire was to return to Amsterdam and at the end of the season as a player for the third time celebrate a championship trophy with the Ajax fans.

"Yet I realised in December that the time to put an end to my active career was coming closer. "The farewell is slightly ahead of schedule. But I look forward to this new chapter in my life."

The new chapter is more of a challenge than he expected, though, with the couple instantly mocked by Dutch media after sharing their story, with headlines joking they should visit food banks to adjust to their "poor lifestyle". A popular blog wrote: "John is not the brightest spark in the country and normally he would have a sucky job in [his native town of] Alphen aan den Rijn. Yet he earned loads of money because he accidentally knew how to kick a ball. We are done with you!"
