Everton will also be without Steven Pienaar for Saturday's game at Tottenham, while Louis Saha and Victor Anichebe are the Blues' other longer term absentees in another season blighted by injuries.

Pienaar as well? Wow, well, I'd lilke to see them both in the squad but only if fit. And Heitinga's calf strain is OK then?

Didn't mention Heitinga but said late fitness tests for Pienaar, Arteta and a few others, so maybe he's one.

We'll get stuffed with or without that lot. Might as well rest some others as well e.g. Felli and Baines for the Villa game.

Moyes on injuries.......

"We're improving, Kevin Miralles is not as bad as we thought."

"Darron Gibson isn't far off."

"Seamus Coleman's injury could keep him out of action for around four weeks."

Re: Injury News

Samuel Eto’o and Sylvain Distin are expected to be fit for Everton’s opening Europa League game against Wolfsburg.

The duo missed the weekend’s 2-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion but Roberto Martinez says both players will be back available for Thursday’s clash with the German outfit at Goodison Park.

Eto’o was absent from the trip to the Hawthorns with a groin injury, while Distin sat out the game with a dead leg.

Martinez said: “Samuel Eto’o and Sylvain Distin will be back for Thursday plus the 18 players we had on Saturday, plus Tyias Browning.”

Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone played most of Sunday’s Under-21s game against Chelsea at Finch Farm as they continued their recovery from long-term injuries.

Tony Hibbert is also making progress after being sidelined since the start of the season and Martinez reported positive news on all three players.

Martinez continued: “Bryan Oviedo and Arouna Kone will be fully fit very soon and Tony Hibbert will be back for the game a week on Tuesday (against Swansea in the Capital One Cup).

“The numbers are there, the experience is there, the legs are there and the balance is strong enough to go and face every game we have in front of us.”

What actually is Kone's injury? Must have been something terrible if it's taking him as long as Ovideo, who shattered a leg(!), to get back to fitness....

Unsy Pleased For Returning Duo

Kone & Oviedo Feature For U21s

David Unsworth has reported the positive news that both Arouna Kone and Bryan Oviedo came through Sunday’s Under-21s game against Chelsea unscathed.

The duo made their return to competitive action in the 2-0 defeat at Finch Farm.

Kone, who had been sidelined for almost a year with a knee injury, got through 80 minutes of action, while Oviedo, on the comeback trail following a horrific broken leg break suffered in January, completed the full game.

“It was brilliant for Arouna and Bryan to get minutes, which is absolutely what the Under-21s is there for as well,” Unsworth exclusively told evertonfc.com. “They are smashing lads and this game was purely about building their fitness.

“Arouna and Bryan are both great professionals and they certainly put a shift in. It’s great to see them both come through it unscathed, and that was a massive positive for us.”

Despite it being his first 90 minutes in eight months, Oviedo’s commitment to the cause was underlined when the Costa Rican international went sliding into a 50-50 with just a minute of the game remaining.

“It was tremendous for him to go in for that ball even if a few, myself included, were wincing a little bit on the side,” admitted Unsworth. “But he came through it fantastically well and I’ve seen him afterwards and he said he’s feeling good.

“It’s brilliant to see Bryan back. His injury is in the past and now he’s well on the road to recovery."

Unsworth felt his side were unlucky to lose out against the Londoners, adding: “There are always positives to take and I thought some of our individual performances against arguably the best side in our league were exceptional.

“I just would have liked to see them take Chelsea on a little bit more for longer periods. There were some good passages of play and some great moments in the game where we could have scored.

Re: Injury News

Post  Super on Fri 27 Mar 2015, 11:48 am

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is hopeful Romelu Lukaku, Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone could all be fit for the visit of Southampton.

Lukaku withdrew from the Belgium squad on Monday due to a hamstring problem, while Gibson was forced out of Republic of Ireland's meeting with Poland because of a stomach strain.

Kone, meanwhile, underwent a scan on his knee following last Sunday's 2-1 victory over QPR but Martinez confirmed the injury is far less severe than first feared.

The Blues boss will closely monitor all three players in the lead up to next Saturday's game at Goodison.

"Romelu had his scan with the Belgian set-up and he's going to be receiving treatment for the next few days, and we'll see how that evolves," said Martinez. "It's a bit of a hamstring strain due to the amount of games that we've played and the amount of fatigue we've accumulated in those games.

"We're quite positive because of the way Rom usually reacts to these types of treatments and how fit he is as an individual.

"It's too early to say how long he's going to be out or if he's going to miss any games but he's concentrating on getting back fit to train with the group.

"With Darron, he had a little bit of a stomach strain. He made sure that he finished the game but he felt it in the last 10-15 minutes. After the game, when his body cooled, he then felt a real difficulty walking and trying to exercise on it.

"He's been receiving treatment and obviously he met with the Irish party, and now we're going to assess him and see how long it will be before he can join the group again.

"In both cases, I don't think they are major injuries but they are injuries that need to be well looked after and we'll see if both players are available or not for the Southampton game."

Following sporadic appearances since his return from over a year out with a serious knee ligament injury, Kone has featured in each of Everton's last five games, impressing alongside Lukaku in attack.

And though the Ivorian had to be substituted after being injured in the build-up to last Sunday's winner, Martinez is confident there will be no interruption to his run in the side.

"We were delighted with the results of the scan, which showed first and foremost that Arouna's ankle and knee are really strong," said the Toffees chief. "In the last two days his joints have practically been back to normal, so we're very confident he could be fully fit for the game against Southampton, although it will be important to see him working with the group and see how he adapts throughout next week."
