Maybe the Cahill role?

Nah, I'm thinking of the creative midfielder role running things in the middle.... wish we had one... Sad

He played mainly on the right last time, if I remember correctly. Good chance that Coleman will be dropped for a couple of months.

LANDON DONOVAN is set to hand David Moyes a New Year’s boost today, as he arrives for his second loan spell at Everton earlier than expected.

The LA Galaxy forward signed a two-month loan deal at Goodison Park earlier this month, having enjoyed a successful stint at the club back in 2010.

Donovan was expected to feature for the first time in the visit of Bolton on January 4., but the USA international is due to meet up with the rest of the Toffees squad at Finch Farm today, and could go straight into Moyes’ squad for the trip to West Bromwich Albion on New Year’s Day.

Did he not make his debut only a few days after joining when he played V Arsenal at the emirates. That was a good game Pienaar goal was quality. Pity they equalised so late on.

If he has a chance to practise some with the squad and Moyes likes what he sees, he just might be close to a starting spot. I would guess he'll at least come off the bench at some point in time during the first game.

RT @antfozzy: @landondonovan R you available for the west brom game? Unfortunately not

I have read a few people saying that he won't be registered with the FA in time for the game. Could be proved wrong though.

Landon Donovan not been allowed play against West Brom!!! Thats unbelievable! The FA are a bunch of corrupt fuckwits. I mean, when will they leave us alone and stop singling out the club for special treatment. Do they not know that in America Donovan is a respected figure and should be allowed play when and forever he wants! I hope the club contest this decision. Its a disgrace. Where is the evidence that he is not allowed play? Have they not released the report???? Fuck sake, no doubt the southern media cheerleaders will sweep this under the carpet without even a mention on Sky or BBC.

We need to fight this now. Moyes should refuse to speak to the media unless he is allowed to play. Maybe the players should wear 'Let Landon Play' t-shirts in the warmup and Landon should be togged out and ready to go in the dressing room just in case the FA come to their senses and do the right thing, but some hope.

LANDON IS NOT INELIGIBLE!! THIS TIME ITS WAR!!!!

You'll never loan alone.

Confirmed on the OS that he cannot play. Don't think this has ever changed but the Liverpool Echo could not be arsed to find out, cocks.

Landon Donovan will arrive at Finch Farm on Friday to begin training with the Blues squad.

Despite reports to the contrary, the situation remains the same as was first announced by the Club.

The American is set to join on loan and the first match he will be eligible for is the home game against Bolton on 4 January.

He is not able to face West Brom on 1 January because the transfer window re-opens after the deadline for registrations for that round of games has closed.

Donovan agreed a two-month loan deal earlier this month, keeping him at Everton until after the Merseyside derby at Anfield on 25 February.

Wants to come back for good

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/nationworld/sns-rt-uk-soccer-england-donovantre81d032-20120213,0,508914.story?

LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan would like to turn his brief taste of the Premier League with Everton into something more permanent once he has led his club to more Major League Soccer (MLS) success.

The 29-year-old United States midfielder, his country's all-time leading goalscorer, has spent the MLS off-season on loan at the Merseysiders and has shone in his two months there like he did during his other short spell with the team two years ago.

It would be hard to go to any other club now so if anything were to happen I would imagine it would be here at Everton," Donovan told Reuters in an interview.

"
"I know for sure this year I'm going back to LA but we'll see," added the player who grabbed assists in the recent surprise wins over Chelsea and Manchester City.

"My commitment is for two more years to the (MLS champion)Galaxy and we'll see what happens after this year ... but I would obviously welcome the opportunity to come back."

The grey skies threatening to burst with rain at any moment are a reminder that while the standard of soccer in the Premier League might be a step up from the MLS, the weather in northwest England compared to Los Angeles would be anything but.

But that is a minor drawback compared to the benefits of playing in Europe with new U.S. coach Juergen Klinsmann urging his players to seek experience in the big leagues to boost the national team's prospects at major tournaments.

"It's obviously not possible for everyone but that's his (Klinsmann's) desire," Donovan said.

"This year's a qualifying year and next year's a qualifying year and then we've hopefully got the World Cup in 2014 so if that's something I feel I need to do leading up to the World Cup then it's something I'd consider for sure."

Donovan, who spent some of his early days in Germany at Bayer Leverkusen, said that while the clock was against him as he turns 30 next month, he still had time for a move.

"There is no question that as you get older your desirability to European clubs diminishes," he said.

"But I still think I can perform at a high level and I think that if guys are doing it at 36, 37, then I hope I can still be doing it at 32, 33."
