I think a lot of people are waiting on the next Wayne Rooney, but I think he will be more of a Leon Osman, which isn't that bad a thing, maybe he needs a season out on loan like Ossie had?

It just seems he has become some kind of wonderkid before actually doing anything.

I know what you mean, but to be honest, he's stronger than osman, and faster and more skillful. To be in Rooney's class he needs to score more goals... or at least one goal - he needs to be a game changer. Not sure he is at the minute, but hopefully that will come with more games. I know he is only young but I keep thinking that if you are good enough then you are old enough, so at the minute, he's good enough, but not great.

He reminds of the kid at school who was always the best player in the year - big, strong, confident but used to playing with people who aren't as good as he is. We had a lad like that and he got a trial for the Liverpool Schoolboys team one season but found himself way out of his depth once he wasn't playing against useless cunts like me.

Only time will tell if Barkley is a Wayne Rooney or a Mickey Rooney. I highly doubt if anyone will really make a silly bid for him yet.

Starting for the England U21s tonight in a Euro Championship qualifier against Norway tonight. Not bad for a 17 year old.

Rodwell also starts.

Also had one cleared off the line that would have made it 3-1. Seems like he had a decent game.

I actually think he is very good already. Just his ease on the ball and willingness (coupled with the ability) to take players on and beat them. Two good feet and some great vision. He's not long 17 and not looking out of place in the premier league and the U21 squad. That's special for any player, but for a central midfielder, it's even better. Awful lot more responsibility playing there than Rooney had playing up front. Early days, but I think we've got a top midfielder in Ross.

Infairness to the lad, he needs to work on a lot. He keeps onto the ball for too long and shoots from distance when there are better options but I still think that he looks a very exciting prospect. He plays with confidence and mixes it with men in their 20s and 30s already.

I just aren't sure what his best position is to be honest? scratch

Everton, meanwhile, also remain hopeful that Belgian midfield man Marouane Fellaini will stay at the club and believe they are getting close to persuading the 23-year-old to agree a new five-year contract.

scratch So has Jimmy Mac signed or not?

Funnily enough I registered the domain 'timetravel.ky' yesterday and keep reading articles in which stuff that I thought had happened is still pending, and vice versa. It's déjà vu all over again.

Nice little chip there. It looks like they had a good time out there even though the celebrations are a bit subdued of course.

I'm not being funny, but for all the hype (usually by fanboys/girls on twitter) but what has he actually done in the first team?

I don't doubt he has potential but I think people are expecting something too soon.

All I can think he has done to change a game is give away the pen at Blackburn.

I hope he makes it and maybe needs a spell on loan somewhere and perhaps aim for the first team the season after next.

Thought he was our best player against QPR (only time I've seen him in the flesh). Trouble is, I think he's probably used to doing it all being better than most kids his age and he tried to do too much on his own (given that everyone else was playing awfully). I still think he's quite a special player, but Moyes knows that too much in the first team can heap the pressure on him and actually knock his confidence (in the same game Rodwell - playing as a right sided midfielder - was booed by our fans for a bad touch or misplaced pass). Think a loan spell is key, but he's been badly injured before and moyes may want protect him a bit.

I think thats a crucial point when trying to evaluate your god-like - next big thing - protege. When someone looks outstanding at 17-18, he may be the best player in that age bracket but when you play for the first team, you are up against the best players of all age brackets. I agree he certainly was our best player against OPR and that may have raised expectations further but there seems to be a feeling that Barkley hasn't been fully fit to make the first team grade for a few months now and I think Moyes is probably managing things correctly here. As our form improves now that would probably be the best time to ease him in, not when we are playing shite and the fans are on the teams back.

Answering my own question ... found this on the OS
http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2012/04/07/blues-lose-in-dallas-semis

Everton are out of the Dallas Cup following a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United in the semi-finals.

The Blues fell behind to Michele Fornasier's opener - the United man slotting home after initially being denied by a great save from Russell Griffiths.

Everton applied plenty of pressure as they sought a leveller, but were eventually hit on the break as they committed men forward with Jesse Lingard scoring a killer second.

The Blues qualified for the last four having won 1-0 against Brazilian side Cortiba - the team United will face in the final - as well as crushing Bolivar 6-0.

Coach Kevin Sheedy believes the tournament has been a great experience for the players.

He said: "The economical passing, the simple techniques and the movement off the ball - they're things we haven't really come up against before.

"And the players have rolled their sleeves up and battled hard in really tough conditions. It's really hot over here and we even had to deal with a tornado at one point, so it's been a good trip!"
