4-0 at half time. Slower pace to game than we are used to but nice glimpses of skill from Arteta and Osman in particular. Yak with the first goal, looked really happy to score. Best of the four was Osmans (the last) with nice work between Arteta, Neville in the lead up.

Everton XI (vs. Bury): Mucha, Coleman, Fellaini, Heitinga, Osman, Yakubu, Arteta, Gueye, Distin, Beckford, Neville.

A strong subs bench includes Jagielka, Baines, Cahill, Bilyaletdinov and, last but not least, Anichebe.

(5) Arteta lays in Yakubu to feet, who takes a few steps before unleashing a low right footed effort from the edge of the box. It's going wide, but Beckford nearly connects with a slide but it goes tamely out for a goal kick.

‎(7) A word as to the formations. Coleman is right back, Neville is left back. Gueye is playing on the right side interestingly, cutting in on his left foot whilst Coleman overlaps.

(14) Osman lays in Yakubu with a tidy pass down the left edge of the box, the Yak (who looks lean and mean) charges in and forces a good save from the Bury 'keeper, tipping over the bar.

GOAL: Yakubu (17) - Leon Osman gets a decent leap up and flicks on for Fellaini at the far toast, nodded back in and the Yak slams in a header into the far right from four yards out. Bury 0 Everton 1

(22) Gueye is moving intelligently into space, but he has one bad haircut. Mohawk-mullet kind of thing. Anyway, shifts onto his left foot and tries a curling effort, deflected out for a corner.

(26) Arteta with a mazy run through the defence after a reverse pass from Phil Neville, lays in Gueye on his right foot, which is unfortunate, as he spoons it completely and it goes wide.

(30) It's been an interesting opening half hour with Arteta dominating the middle and our attacking movement looking good against albeit inferior opposition in a no pressure game. Schumacher unleashes an optimistic shot from 30 yards for Bury which flies over the bar.

GOAL: Magaye GUEYE (32) - Whoops! Mark Hughes, ex-Everton lad, gives the ball away to Yakubu, who gives it to Gueye, his first shot is blocked but he tucks away the rebound. Bury 0 Everton 2.

‎(35) Good defensive work from Leon Osman as he tracks back and cuts out a menacing low cross from Lowe. Corner to Bury, taken short, chipped in and Fellaini's afro, AKA the 12th man, gets it clear

(40) Bury coming into things but don't have the added quality needed to threaten us too much. Schumacher in the middle for Bury has looked decent, but generally this is Evertons for the taking and we could have a hatful tonight.

(41) A waste from Bury. They get the ball in "the hole" between our defence and midfield, a four on two opportunity but Ryan Lowe is selfish and his optimistic shot is well blocked away by Distin.

GOAL: Leon OSMAN (43) - Stunning goal from little Leon. Instant control, onto his right foot and instantly curled into the far right corner. Decent assist from Phil Neville. Bury 0 Everton 3.

GOAL: Magaye GUEYE (44) - Brilliant! Everton have destroyed Bury here, lovely deft feet from Gueye, baffles Schumacher and launches a low left footed drive from the edge of the box beyond the 'keeper to the right of the net. Bury 0 Everton 4.

HALF TIME: Everton have decimated a confused and downhearted Bury in the first 45 minutes, and the 4-0 scoreline is nothing more than the Blues deserve. Yakubu opened things up with a point blank header, Gueye helped himself to two with his impressive left foot, and Leon Osman scored a corker. Easy stuff - Bury 0 Everton 4!

Jermaine Beckford taken off - seems to be a pulled hamstring. Cahill not coming on so apparently we're playing this one out with 10 men.

Subs bench seems a movable feast - unsure of the exact composition - but here's the 2nd half highlights.

EVERTON SUBS: Jagielka, Baines, Anichebe, Bilyaletdinov (ON) Distin, Heitinga, Fellaini, Arteta (OFF)

(47) Anichebe has started well (no, really), and cuts back for Yakubu who does his best Fernando Torres impression and spoons it over the bar.

‎(48) That is a PEACH of a pass from Diniyar Russianblokedyov, finds Beckford to feet with a 40 yard ball, Beckford cuts in, weaker left foot to hit it but it's not a bad effort that skims the bar on it's way over.

‎(50) Bilyaletdinov looks a completely different animal in the middle. Full of flair, looking for space and an available pass, dribbling directly and, most importantly, picking up the ball and slashing shots at goal - this one whisks just past the post before the 'keeper saw it.

(55) Great stuff from Bily. He's on the end of a long pass, and he improvises a diving header to a through ball for Beckford, who rounds the 'keeper but fails to score from a tight angle - but the flag was up anyway for offside.

GOAL: Steven SCHUMACHER (60) - Jan Mucha shows why he is the number two 'keeper as he makes a complete mess of a long range strike from the Bury captain. Good free kick, but woeful from the Slovak 'keeper. Bury 1 Everton 4

(63) It's another sublime ball from Bilyaletdinov in for Beckford, who is onside (no, really, I'm not making this up - Anichebe started well and Beckford was onside!) but the ball just about runs through to the 'keeper.

‎(66) Oooohhhh... Jagielka knocks back a Coleman whipped cross to the far left, Beckford pounces, blocked, goes for it again, another block, away it goes. Isn't happening for Jermaine at the moment.

‎(68) Oh for the love of.... Jermaine Beckford chases a ball and pulls up with a clear hamstring pull. The season hasn't even begun yet! This will put us down to 10 men I believe - Cahill is a listed substitute but the evertonTV commentary team do not believe he'll be risked.

Beckford goes straight down the tunnel.

(72) Everton will probably just play this game out now with sensible possession as we're reduced to ten men. Bilyaletdinov has hardly misplaced a pass since he has come on and looks very impressive, albeit against Bury.

(80) Everton are tiring and Bury are making the extra man tell late on. Some of the older heads like Jagielka need to make sure we see the game out without doing anything silly

FULL TIME: Bury 1 Everton 4 - Everton fans stream onto the pitch, which is ridiculous. We haven't won a trophy or even a competitive game. Anyway, a great performance in the first half which showed an appetite to get playing again, with goals from Gueye, Yakubu and Osman

I actually find that pretty funny. Not sure I understand why, but wasn't it one year when a new signing was more or less stripped down to his undies after the final whistle?

Saw the goals on SSN there. Ossie is a wizard at those calm almost pass like shots into the corners of the net from the edge of the box. Gueye wasnt really showing any delight at bagging a double but great that he grabbed a few for the confidence. Be interesting to see how he performs against tougher pre-season opposition. Maybe the secret weapon is ready?

Love the new shirt. Very smart.
