4: Darron Gibson - Another Fergie bargain?

Post  Made 4 Gwladys on Mon 02 Jan 2012, 12:50 pm

Everton are showing interest in Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson.
However, the Republic of Ireland international, who was dropped at the weekend for the surprise 3-2 home defeat by Blackburn Rovers, may stay at Old Trafford until United boss Sir Alex Ferguson can bring in reinforcements.

Seen him play for Ireland a few times. Has a great shot but apart from that I don't rate him.

We don't need a new central midfielder and he is shit. Can only see Moyes going for him if we are selling Jack Rodwell. We are still pretty strong in the middle of the park though even without Jack. We are crying out for a striker.

One word: regression.

The only thing he is at now is 'star' in their Aon insurance Irish ads so that all the Irish Utd fans will flood out and buy insurance because he says so..

Career has stalled, should have left with the O'Shea, Brown exodus in the summer. He needs to go off to the Championship to earn some credit in the bank.

I guess I'm going to be the one dissenting voice here. I think he's pretty good (at least in all the games I've seen him play).

I'm not necessarily saying we should sign him, but he has got a good eye for a pass and can unlock the door for our strikers to fuck up a one-on-one!

Just on Newstalk (Irish radio) that Everton are sniffing around Gibson who is available on a free in the summer. However with Scholes drafted back into the squad, a nominal fee now could be in the offing. Shite..

I can't say I've seen much of the lad, other than a goal he scored about a year ago from about 20 yards.
What's his midfield role? A defensive holder / Makelele style or a Ossie type?

If it is less than 1 million then I wouldn't have a massive problem with it. I have never rated him but I would give him a chance at that price.

Didn't realise winning the FA Premier Reserve League was that important. Obviously the Mancs are spoilt for choice so Gibson will look out of place. Maybe he is shite, maybe not. Either way he should be better than some of the other donkeys Sir Alex has offloaded our way in the past - like John O'Kane.

You could say he is a box to box midfield player and when we gets around the opposing box has a decent shot. However he has never progressed to really learn his trade to a high level, mainly due to the fact that he rarely plays. Too often he would get ahead of the ball rather then be on hand to receive it and build up the play, or not get back to take the ball off his defenders to start the play. Bit of a headless chicken really. I dont think he has the desire to be a top class pro. He refuses to leave Utd despite the fact for 2 seasons now, its clear Ferguson doesn't rate him anymore. Now it seems he would rather sit on the bench (or not even on the bench) until the end of the season so he can get a free transfer. This is even more baffling seeing that an injury to another player or good run of games could see him make the Irish squad for Euros. Dont think he has his priorities right but unfortunately he's about our level at the moment due to finances.

Scott Gemill of today really. No
