5million deal tomorrow, from FC Copenhagen, we've beaten WBA to his signature.

I know nothing of him.

He's a left back which is position we dont need so this is a strange one. I think Garbatt is fine to cover Baines. I was hoping for a midfielder as this is where we look short.

Everton in pole position for Copenhagen's Bryan Oviedo. WBA not in the picture and a deal worth around 5m looks likely before tomorrow. @philmcnulty 13 minutes ago

Thats what I thought - hope not. But why would a cash strapped club like us spend 5m on a player who will not even be first choice?

Young, versatile, plays in defense and midfield. Even if Baines doesn't leave in near future, no harm having some decent back up, ready and able. Another small building block.

I'm struggling to come to terms with the concept of 'competition for places' involving anything other than average players. Very Happy

Agree. I suppose this guy will cover Pienaar as well as Baines. We have no cover for Pienaar currently.

Im not a fan of defenders playing in midfield though generally. A centre midfield partnership of him and a knackered Phil Neville when Felli and Gibbo are unavailable frightens me !

The transfer guru on SNN with the big shinny gizmo screen says the deal is worth 5m 'in total' which probably suggests 5m including add ons.

Phil McNulty from the BBC has just tweeted:

Even if Everton sign Bryan Oviedo they will push ahead to try and sign another midfield man before tomorrow's deadline. Few names in frame.

Exciting times. cheers

Coleman should be regularly playing right midfield by the end of this season, or at least the middle of next. He's better when he's given free reign to run at defenders IMO.

Indeed.

We went out to Portugal in 2004 in a penalty shootout after being denied a late extra time goal. Sad

Everton agree deal for Copenhagen's versatile Bryan Oviedo

Everton have agreed a fee with FC Copenhagen for the versatile Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo.

Oviedo has been a regular starter for Copenhagen after joining from Deportivo Saprissa in his homeland.

The 22-year-old, who can operate at left-back and on the left side of midfield, is en route to Merseyside to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.

Everton's pre-match press conference on Friday morning ahead of Saturday's Premier League away clash with West Brom was conducted by their assistant manager, Steve Round, who explained that the manager, David Moyes, was in London working on finalising the Oviedo deal.

Asked about Oviedo, Round said: "I have seen him on a regular basis I have been abroad and watched him, as have all the scouts and the manager.

"But as yet he is not our player. We have work permits to get. That is why the manager is not doing the press today he is in London trying to tie that up and finalise it.

"Until it's all done we can't really comment too much, but I think later in the day it will all become clearer and when he puts pen to paper we can talk about the player.

"He can play left-back, left-midfield, left-wing all the way down the left-hand side. That will give us good cover in our squad."
