He doesn't exactly look like a winger. He makes Beattie look slender.

Everton have unveiled Aidan McGeady before kick-off at Goodison Park. The former Celtic player signs from Spartak Moscow on a four and a half year deal and is available with immediate effect.

Can't wait to see him play since I don't know too much about him. Should be a good addition to the team though from what I understand.

exactly. I could post a YouTube of my nan playing in the SPL and she would look like fucking Messi. He reminds me of some fat cunt who's the cock of his Sunday League pub team as long as he hasn't had too much Vindaloo and Tennants the night before.

We'll see.

Mind you, I can't see him getting any playing time for a few weeks, cos he looks like he needs to lose about a third of his body weight first.

Woah! This thread is pretty negative for someone who hasn't played a single minute for us yet! Let's see what he's like for us before judging him!

But now that Alcaraz and McCarthy have proven themselves to be pretty good, we need a new boo boy. Kone is out injured and booing Naismith is getting boring now...

Spartak paid 9.5M in 2010 so he can't be that bad can he?

He's unfit as he hasn't played ... I presume closed season in Russia...

McGeady will now join the Everton squad for a week's warm-weather training in Tenerife ahead of their next game at West Brom on 20 January.
Martinez said: "There is going to be a bit of an adaptation period because he hasn't played in the last five or six weeks. That is going to give us a little bit of time.

I hope he can be a good perm replacement for Foofoo

Don't think we are being negative, it's just that we are now challenging for a champions league position and the teams around us are spending money to improve their squads as it's all so tight, but we are recruiting effectively a free agent who can't get a game at his own club, has apparent disciplinary issues and while he was good in the Scottish league, the EPL is a big step up.

We started the year with a strong squad and we expected to improve on the strength, not dilute it.

Yes we all hope boberto knows what he is doing, and he prefers ball players to game wreckers, but mcgeady looks a bit like a headless chicken who doesn't know where his team mates are but could find a bar in the middle of a desert whilst blindfolded.

I reckon it will be several months before we see him as he needs to get fit and learn how to pass.

Re: 7. Aidan McGeady - Fit for 90 minutes?

Post  KoelJagz on Sun 12 Jan 2014, 12:13 pm

What would give me cause for optimism is the transformation of McGeady under the new Irish management team, however brief that has been. Trappattoni system of play, an extremely defensive 4-4-2 meant he was nearly always double marked, as the fullback were never allowed to overlap plus he was normally played on his weaker right wing. They was no deep lying number 10 either so whenever ever he got the ball, he had two opposition players in front of him and no team mate within 40 yards of the ball. It was heart breaking stuff to watch. Imagine Pienaar receiving the ball but no sign of Baines bombing forward in support or a Osman or Barkley beside him in play the ball to. In O'Neill first game for Ireland, he gave McGeady licence to cut in from the left and run at the defense with plenty of ball players like Hoolahan and a more advanced McCarthy in support. Scored a beauty from distance too against Latvia.
By all accounts he did well in Russia with more clashes in personality with over sensitive Russian team mates and manager rather then poor performance the reason why he was allowed leave.

Ideally I would have preferred him signing on in the summer as Martinez will need a few weeks if not months to get him playing to the level of the rest of the attacking players but with a growing injury list and the departure of Jelevic, I can understand why he pushed it through now. I think we will need to have plenty of patience as like Barkley he will make plenty of mistakes in possession as he tries to be positive but with the right direction he will be a good player for us, much like how well McCarthy has settled in quickly. I think it is also positive he will have a few international teammates around him which will aid continuity when away on Irish duty.

Give him time. He will be a good player.
