Eto'o & Naismith are doing a great job but,Its time to bring in Chris long as a backup striker, Lukaku has to realise he is not worth 8 million let alone 28 million price tag. what was Martinez thinking when he has gone on record to say? He would have paid over 100 million? WTF.

Lukaku will be our top scorer this season, yes he can't trap a bag of cement, he can't pass, and he is a liability with his back to goal.... but when he is running at defenders he is fecking scarey, I predict 20 goals this season

I hope you are right cheers

Agreed. Midweek the only thing that put Kjaer off his game was Luka running straight at him.

But he hardly ever runs at defenders, he spends his whole life with his back to the goal looking shit. If he scores 20, then Bony would have scored 40 for us for half the price.

The trick to Rom is that as Sacko says "Rom needs to run onto the ball.... he is really scary...". The challenge for Roberto is that defenders can work to cut out the chances to allow such a ball - midfields work harder, FFS thats what we have been doing against Stevie Me-Laaa for yonks. All that said I also feel that Rom by himself (was a bit like Dunc by himself - we become predictable). The answer lies in the likes of Ross Barkley, Eto'o & Naismith adding into the mix for defenders to concern themselves... which leaves the flanks - Baines/Pienaar - Coleman/Mirallas/McGeady will exploit.... tighten the wings and the gaps in the middle.... I still feel relatively optimistic.... if we (and the Shoite) have had our usual season worth of injury already, I take us to come out on top.... and we will push closer for 4th this time around..... Sam/Rom/Nais being the spearhead.....

Luka had no first touch, couldn't pass, and couldn't control the ball last season yet scored plenty of goals. He's got 4 in 9 games this season so far.

I think we need to look at his qualities - he is a great finisher in the box, can score from outside the box too, good in the air, powerful runner etc - and decide whether we play to those strengths or whether we ask him to fit into Martinez's 'system' by dropping back and linking up play, which he is shit at. IMO we have Barks, Nais, Kev, Pienaar etc to drop back and link play - that's the midfielders' job. If we can avoid involving Luka in the build play and get the ball into the box for him to finish, he'll look like a £28m player again.

Think Lukaku will take a few years to get up to his best, he's only 21 and he's already scored hatfuls of goals. Some of it is confidence and some of it is just belief in his own strength and ability. Playing with Eto'o will help him but I kid of feel like he's a little in awe of Sammy at the moment. Liked his celebration at having made up for his mistake, like his comments about practising finishing with eto'o in training and thought he was trying for that scooped finish. I think he doesn't see himself as a hold up player, but more a finisher. He'll learn the tricks he needs for that.

Got no worries about Lukaku, you don't score 16+ league goals a season, two seasons on the spin without being a good player. And he's not even at his best yet.

I'm not a Luka bashing brigade fan.. he scores goals (even when he's in a bad run like now)...

Sure, 28M was OTT for him, but fuck that.. he scores goals...

he's only a kid, but he scores goals...

Not long ago we had Jelly & Ani up front FFS... and they didn't score goals

give the lad a break... he scores goals

Did I say he scores goals.. Very Happy

Naismith has scored as many as Luka this season and he cost nuppence. Eto'o has scored as many as Luka this season and he cost nuppence and has only played in a handful of games. Coleman has scored just one less than Luka this season and he cost nuppence, is a defender, and has been injured for half the season.

This thing about how many goals Luka is scoring is a myth. And he's shit in the air.

I don't think the crowd should be getting on his back either, I'm just saying he's not very good. Hopefully he'll improve, but I don't think there's any point in pretending he hasn't been a a disappointment at £28m, especially when players who cost a fraction of that are scoring just as many goals and making a lot bigger contribution to our overall play. We're mid-table at the moment - if a few players had done a bit better, Lukaku amongst them, we might be top four.

If Eto'o plays the number 10 role, there is no place for Nais.
Nais has proved to us that the 10 role is the one he is best at.
Shove him out wide and we get the Moyesesque version.
RM now has a dilemma now he is getting close to a fit squad (Stones, KM and Kone notwithstanding, or in Kone's case notworthstanding)

Right now he's not very good. Nais is better, Eto'o is better. He's our third best striker. Coleman is playing better, Baines is playing better, Barkley is playing better, Mirallas was playing better, Luka's one of our weakest players. He's scored four goals as our main striker, playing almost every minute of every game which, as I've said, is one goal more than our right back has scored, who has been out injured. I've got nothing against him, I hope he scores loads and starts looking like a £28m player. He hasn't so far. He's not been very good.

This thing about how many goals Luka is scoring is a myth. And he's shit in the air.
Kone hasn't scored as many as Luka clown
and he cost £5m! cheers

Couldn't careless what the shite are doing, Lukaku is playing shite and deserves lambasting, if he comes good he will get his rewards.
for now though people are paying good money to watch him and expect more from him.
I agree he's not at full tilt right now.. but he is still doing what I expected from him.. scoring goals.. albeit with errors in the way sometimes & looking knackered... but that will pass.

I'm still pleased we have him... and I'm more pleased that we have him & not any of the above named shite prima donnas

Agreed. I don't think any of our strikers improve when they have the crowd on their back so I'm cheering him on... and Kone too when he returns in 2017.

I don't think you score 16-17 league goals a season by not being very good. If he does the same or better this season, no one will have any problem with him.

I am (unfortunately) with Hairy on this one. He's looked cumbersome since day 1 this season for some reason.

And remember, there was quite a bit of luck involved with his goal. He miss hit the ball in to the ground which made it loop over the goalie's outstretched arm. But strikers need that bit of fortune to get going at times, hopefully this was what he needed.

I am terrified when he gets the ball when he's in our half, especially if facing our goal (think their goal).

Needless to say we all hope he turns out to be a fantastic signing, but at the moment he's not. I would even like to see Eto'o and Nais being picked ahead of him for the time being. Granted, they would to a certain extent be fighting for the same spot, so maybe based on that, Lukaku gets picked week in week out. His pitch performance has not really warranted to be included every week.

Luke's build up play for his goal was pretty neat. Just doesn't happen enough.

Yes, the general build up for that goal was great, but in the end I thought the move that made the goal was Naismith's excellent two touch footwork move. Very Happy

Eto'o was a free transfer. We should remember that as a club we agreed to compensate CFC for the right to have him on our books. I think that when you look at actual remuneration between Sam and Rom normal service will be resumed

Right now is the point. He's playing poorly, his first touch is bad and he lacks confidence. Yet he's still scored 4 goals. He has a goals to games ratio of about 1 in 2, whenever he gets to play. That's the sign of a good player to me.

He'll get better, I have no doubt. At the moment, I think his own frustration with his form has meant he's trying too hard to score and as a result has lost his composure a little.
