Everton v Tottenham Hotspur.

Post  KoelJagz on Thu 31 Dec 2015, 11:17 am

Time to bring some defensive solidity to his thread. Too much leaky defending is the whole organization and administration of this competition.

Anyway, assuming everyone is slowly recovering from the latest punch in the stomach on Monday, the wounds should have healed sufficiently for the next punch in the bollox's live in front of Sky cameras against the slow crawling, momentum gathering, energizing force that is Tottenham Hotspur. Seemingly ridding themselves of the flakiness associated with the club they are perhaps doing what Everton should be doing i.e. hoovering up points while the top of the table is in flux. Build on a solid defense (would you fancy that!), some young British duracell bunnies in the middle of midfield and in Harry Kane, a player back to his best up front Spurs have emerged from the pack as a serious contender from Top 4. On Paper, both first 11's show little between them but Mauricio Pochettino has Tottenham built from the back up, with little evidence off the kamikaze last ditch defending now on show weekly at Everton Circus.

Clearly the loss of James McCarthy in recent weeks cannot be underestimated. Neither Barry, Besic, Gibson or Cleverly can cover the hard yards in Maccas absence especially as the front 4 go on the cavalry charge so maybe Roberto may finally work on some defensive solidity this week although such a dramatic change in mindset is for pre-season, not for end of December. The media who largely have been on his side are now turning on him as we slide further down the table in to the abyss, witnessing the waste of such a talented bunch of players. Maybe a cup win will save his reputation but the fans can see that his cavalier approach, rather then curtailed as the play going forward prodominently relies on it, needs adapting as to not leave the defense so vulnerable and isolated that they now risk conceding a penalty several times a game. Surely the penny has to drop sometime or we are facing another embarrassment (but entertaining for the neutrals) on Sunday.

Prediction: 2-1*

* Assuming we at least try and defend or work on set pieces this week.

I know most games are a "must" win for us, but I really feel this one is just that.

Win and we might look a bit more credible and some of our "stars" may stay
Lose and I think there will be real pressure from some to leave this window affraid

So I'm going for 3-1

COME ON YOU BLUES

I fear the same, but with our team, it's seems like it's getting harder and harder to predict the score line. Under Moyes, it was normally a tight affair, like 1-0, 1-1 or 0-1. Under Martinez, it's all over the place. Lots of goals, which I am sure is entertaining for the neutral, but frustrating, when we are not winning, for Evertonians.

Lennon and Kone getting the nod because they help the defence out more than Foo or Mirallas I suppose. And one eye on the Citteh first leg?

Fully expect to lose this, but you never know eh.

COYB! SACK BOBBY!

Anyone got any interesting snacks lined up for half time?

I binned all my Christmas leftovers on New Year's Day in a fit of self-righteousness. Now I could really fucking murder those Pringles, jelly babies, chocolate santas, miniature christmas cakes, mince pies, and whisky flavoured pots of marmelade that are at the bottom of the bin outside....

I got a bit of a dilemma; the game is on a local Spanish speaking station, but I don't speak any Spanish. So, should I watch it on the TV or try and watch it on a link with you guys?
