Everton vs Crystal Palace

Post  Barry Horne's Equaliser on Mon 26 Sep 2016, 4:05 pm

Our first Friday evening game under the lights against Alan 'Footballing Lesson' Pardew's Crystal Palace. Games at home to Palace have been a bit of a bastard to us in the last couple of seasons with a loss and a draw (indeed, I managed to witness the 3-2 defeat first hand) but 2016/17 is where that particular tide will turn.

They may have spawned a win against Sunderland last week, but I can only see a 2-0 home win with Lukaku and Mirallas scoring.

I sure hope you are correct - we looked so out of sorts over the weekend. Granted, if Lukaku had scored on that header, who knows what might have happened.

2-1.

Just looking at you prediction for the game BHE, and came across this...

Friday Night Football comes to Goodison Park this week, as Everton host Crystal Palace. And the fixture could see the Blues set a rather unusual club record.
Ahead of last Saturday’s game with Bournemouth, Everton author and statistician Steve Johnson unearthed a belting statistic……

Not since September 2014 have the Blues recorded a 2-0 victory in the league – a run of 77 matches. Defeat at the Vitality Stadium, of course, extended that run to 78 games, equalling their longest-ever sequence. That was set between September 1936 and May 1938, and Everton can break the record against Palace this week.

The last 2-0 win in the league came at West Brom more than two years ago, when Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas were on target at The Hawthorns. Back then, Roberto Martinez's stock was still high and Lukaku had just become the club's record signing. Alan Irvine was in charge of The Baggies.

There have been cup successes by that scoreline since – most notably the FA Cup quarter final epic against Chelsea in March – but routine league wins have been harder to come by. Can Ronald Koeman end this quirky hoodoo?

That is a good stat. Very Happy

It's much harder to record 2-0 victories when you have an inept manager who loses more than they win as has been the case for much of the last two years.

Boo that man. How can stats be useless?

I was going to add that 2-0 was always a dangerous lead which is why Booby didn't like them. He learned his lesson in the 2-2 Arsenal game.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will start against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Friday despite a toe problem, says Toffees boss Ronald Koeman. Lukaku, 23, has scored six goals in his last four games for club and country.

Baines isn't fit. I'd expect Palace to attack via their right wing.

Post  hairy cataract on Fri 30 Sep 2016, 11:57 am

Palace to win.

"It's massive," crowed Palace manager Pardew after his team's 3-1 humbling of Everton. "We came here expecting nothing - it's a Friday night, under the lights, at one of the massivest clubs in world football.  Nobody gave us a chance, but we gave them a lesson today. We were the teachers, they were the pupils.  Absent pupils, sagging off school.  Probably smoking round the back of the chippy, sharing an Embo and a portion of chips and curry sauce, with hundreds and thousands sprinkled over. Our fans have always loved Bolasie, after all they invented the song that the scousers have stolen like hubcaps from a parked Ford Fiesta, but they love Yala even more after his miserable display tonight, giving the ball away with backflicks and keepie-uppies in his own box".

Everton boss Koeman was clearly angered by his side's ineffectual outing: "Fucking shite. Clueless bunch of fucking cunts.  I tell them to press. PRESS PRESS PRESS YOU FUCKING CLOWNS! but all they do is run around crying like little tiny babies. It's not about individuals, though I must mention how fucking dreadful Lukaku, Bolasie, Coleman, Mirallas, Foofoo, Lennon, Cleverley, Barkley, Jags, Williams and Stek were, it's about a team who are not yet capable of putting my ideas into action, the utter twats."

1-3  Bolasie og, Stek og, Coleman og, and a late consolation from Niasse's missus.
