Burnley vs Everton

Post  Barry Horne's Equaliser on Wed 19 Oct 2016, 11:56 pm

Everton make the trip to Turf Moor without a win in four games. After a decent defensive display away to Man City (conveniently ignoring the fact that on another day they would have scored two penalties) a different approach is needed with much more emphasis on the other end of the pitch. A 2-0 win is on the cards, with Lukaku and Mirallas scoring.

Leighton Baines will miss Saturday's trip to Burnley after suffering a setback with his recent hamstring injury.

The Blues left-back has not featured since last month's 3-1 home win against Middlesbrough and, at his press conference on Thursday, boss Ronald Koeman confirmed the defender would not be in his matchday squad for the clash at Turf Moor.

Koeman said: “It is difficult because Leighton did the normal programme to come back - he had good sessions and played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors game against Wigan.

“But then the day after he was a little bit stiff and he went for a scan that showed he had a little setback.

“It is tricky. Maybe we need to wait longer to get him back to 100 per cent. It is difficult to say how long it will take but we will see.”

Aaron Lennon, meanwhile, has shaken off a knock and is available for selection after missing last weekend’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

Long-term absentees Muhamed Besic, Tyias Browning (both knee) and Matthew Pennington (hamstring) remain unavailable.

Lawro's thoughts.....

Burnley v Everton

Burnley's home form is becoming even more important in their bid to stay up, because they pose hardly any threat when they play away.

I suspect Clarets boss Sean Dyche might tweak his formation to increase their attacking power but, even if he sticks with their usual 4-5-1, his side will hound the life out of Everton.

The Toffees showed against Manchester City last week that they can cope with sustained pressure and still look dangerous at the other end, but I see this one ending up all-square.

Lawro's prediction: 1-1

Burnley get a freekick some 40 yards out, seemed like Williams collided with the Burnley player, not much of intent.

Burnley with a chance from a corner, hits it over from 10 yards out. Should have done better.

Lukaku with a shot, parried, Mirallas tries to get to the ball but he's offside.

The game has not really settled in to a rhythm quite yet.
