The Toffees are expecting offers from Chelsea and Manchester United for striker Romelu Lukaku, 24, and believe their £100m valuation will not dissuade them. (The Times - subscription required)

I think Chelsea's position for Lukaku depended on Diego Costa going back to Atletico,Now they still have a ban until January, i don't see Lukaku going there.

Do you think Maureen really wants him?... Chavs have had so many managers I can't really remember who binned Lukaku from there.. but I think it was Maureen.

Maureen could be using Luka as a smokescreen to mask his real targets...

Didn't Yoyo ditch Lukaku saying some thing like "He knows why I haven't been picking him, and why he's going elsewhere."

nah, if Rooney wants to come to us it'll have to be on a free anyway. Besides they have paid off his outstanding wages so he's a free agent (allegedly)

Re: Romelu Lukaku - Chelsea's loss (for this season)

Post  Super on Tue 6 Jun - 11:14

Everton's Romelu Lukaku has decided where he wants to play next season.

The 24-year-old striker, who scored 25 Premier League goals last season, turned down the most lucrative contract offer in Everton's history in March.

"I don't want to stay at the same level. I want to improve and I know where I want to do that," Belgian Lukaku said on Monday.

"We are now talking to the club. I know what's happening, but I will leave the talks to my agent."

Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for Lukaku, who has been at Everton since 2013.

"I know what's happening, but I can't tell you anything more," he added to journalists after Belgium beat the Czech Republic in a friendly in Brussels.

"What I would like most is to play in the Champions League and try to win the Premier League once. Or better - a few times."

Lukaku is represented by Mino Raiola, the agent who helped negotiate Paul Pogba's £89m move to Manchester United last summer.

Bloody hell... he kept that one quiet.

When he says they are talking to the club, I presume he means Everton? Obviously it would contravene all kinds of rules to talk to anyone else before a bid has been accepted and all that.

not sure if I would like him with us next season, goals aside, I think he offers very little, he will be sulking and still mouthing off about his " dream move " every time he is away.

Re: Romelu Lukaku - Chelsea's loss (for this season)

Post  RhinoJagz on Wed 21 Jun - 14:58

If you look at Lukakuís stats versus total goals scored and the next 4 scorers in the team over his 4 years at Everton, you can draw some interesting conclusions.

First, the stats:

Total goals 2016/17: 62
Lukaku 25
___________________
Next 4: 17

Total goals 2015/16: 59
Lukaku 18
__________________
Next 4: 22

Total Goals 2014/15: 48
Lukaku: 10
___________________
Next 4: 20

Total goals 2013/14: 61
Lukaku: 15
___________________
Next 4: 25

In cold analytical terms what appears to be happening is the team as a whole is scoring the same amount of goals per season but Lukaku is scoring more of them. 2017, in fact saw him outscore the next 4 top scorers for the first time. This obviously is not a good thing because when Lukaku was having an off day, the team struggled to score goals from elsewhere. The same thing was happening at Utd with Ibra hoovering up a majority of the goals.

So it this a reason to sell Lukaku? It depends really. He scores lots of our goals because heís bloody good at it. But as we appear to set up to get the best out of him have we stopped getting the best out the likes of Mirallas and Barkley and with one man up top, there doesnít really appear to be room for a second striker to make an impression.

If we were to sell Lukaku, then we doesnít necessarily need to replace him with another 20 goal striker. What we need is new or existing players to share an extra 10-15 goals which is why we should be targetting players like Sigurdsson who is as effective with the dead ball as in open play. Something Lukaku has been hogging in recent season too.

If we are to keep Lukaku we need to get a better spread of goals across the team as a whole, not just try and get the best out of him. We are regularly hitting 60 goals as season but need to probably find another 10 goals a season to break the top 6.

So setting the team up with the right balance is important. This is why an increase in his work rate is crucial. Probably unlikely at a club where he seems to think he has outgrown.

Conclusion. Sell!
