KCR Genk v Everton

Post  The President on Sat 22 Jul 2017, 3:33 pm

Updates so Far
1:31
25' And it is very close to an opener. The 31-year-old whips in his set-piece and it is inches over the bar. The Genk keeper looked worried with that effort.
15:29
24' Pre-season friendly? Try telling that to Wayne Rooney who battles to win the ball and now has a free-kick 30 yards out.
15:27
21' Genk are lively, notably Leandro Trossard. He's back in the thick of the action when he collects a through ball and sees his first-time effort drift narrowly wide. The hosts have been dangerous.
15:25  Rooney's Chance

| @WayneRooney goes close to scoring his second pre-season goal. Good save. 0-0. #EvertonLive: https://t.co/m1rIpwvD9C pic.twitter.com/yW5qEhBv9J
— Everton (@Everton) July 22, 2017
15:23
17' Khammas sends in a cross from the left which nearly finds the lively Trossard but Schneiderlin is there just in time to block the ball.
15:21
15' Blues look to be playing a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Rooney out left, Dowell on the right, Klaassen in the middle and Sandro in attack.
15:19
12' Everton go close to an opener. Dowell floats a ball in from the right, Rooney heads but cannot get a strong enough connection and Genk keeper Jackers saves.
15:15
9' Another shot from the edge of the area by Trossard creeps past Pickford's right-hand post.
15:14
8' A touch of class from Gana as he gets under Holgate's long pass and sidefoots a pass to Sandro. The Spaniard cannot keep the ball, though.
15:11
6' Genk have their first (half) chance when captain Thomas Buffel levels for Trossard to have a low shot from the edge of the area that takes a eflection and is held by Pickford.
15:09
4' And it's a first touch in the Everton career of Jordan Pickford as he collects Williams' header back.
15:08
3' Early possession for the Blues, with Holgate seeing plenty of the ball out wide on the right.
15:05  We're Under Way
Genk kick off.

0-1 Everton cheers H/T

15:53
HT: Fans were looking forward to seeing Rooney and Sandro team up in attack and the new boys combined for the opener.
It's been an entertaining 45 minutes, with Genk giving Ronald Koeman's men plenty to think about, too.
15:52 Half-time: Genk 0-1 Everton
Great timing by the Blues as Rooney's second goal since returning to Everton separates the sides at the break.
15:51 GOAL! Genk 0-1 Everton
It's Rooney again. Sandro's delightful centre from wide right is met first time by Rooney at the back post and the forward slots home with his left foot.
15:49
44' Klaassen in the action again. From wide on the left, his whipped cross is met by Keane - who was forward for the free-kick - and the defender loops a header inches over the crossbar.

1-1
16:19 Goal - Genk 1-1 Everton
55' The hosts level as Martina's header falls into the path of Samatta who fires a low shot past Stekelenburg.
16:17
53' It's a move for the new boys. Rooney passes to Klaassen who drifts a long pass out to Martina. The defender curls a cross in from the right and Rooney's shot is blocked by a Genk defender.
16:15 Shift In Attack
52' Mirallas is playing wide left, with Rooney now the main man in attack. Martina is a straight swap for Holgate.

16:22
57' What a save from Stekelenburg! It looks a certain Genk goal when Samatta thunders in a header but the Dutchman somehow parries the ball onto the bar before Keane clears with the ball inches away from crossing the line.

16:29 Blues Changes
66' Connolly, Barry and Lookman are about to come on.
16:27
64' Another chance, this time for Genk. Buffel is allowed too much space at the back post but his attempted volley goes wide.

16:42
79' Another Everton change. Calvert-Lewin is on for Rooney. Barry is now Blues skipper.
16:37
Besic is shown a yellow card for a foul on Manuel. Genl's free-kick is headed away by McCarthy and then Keane.
16:36
73' More Everton changes as Besic, Davies and McCarthy are on for Williams, Klaassen and Gana.
16:34
71' Barry's lofted long-range pass is a touch too heavy for Rooney to get on the end of.

16:53 Sharpy's Nod
90' Club ambassador Graeme Sharp is on evertontv commentary this afternoon and has picked out Wayne Rooney as his pick of the Blues players. It's his goal that had the Toffees ahead, and Everton are pushing to regain their lead.
16:51 Short Break In Play
The action resumes after an injury for the hosts to Brabec. Can either side find a winner?

I watched it. Some ok performances but it was a typical preseason performance from us and Genk were getting stuck in.
