Everton V HNK Hajduk Split

Post  SouthernSmugToffee on Mon 14 Aug 2017, 9:35 am

UEFA Europa League First playoff round, Game 1
Thursday 17 August, 20:05
Goodison Park, Liverpool

HNK Hajduk Split finished 3rd in the Croation League, consistently finish in the top 3. They beat Bronby of Denmark 2-0 on aggregate in the last round, with midfielder Ante Erceg scoring both goals.
Everton again are odds on to keep a clean sheet, with 1-0 as the bookies favourite scroreline.

Looks like its going to be our most popular scoreline.

Will Koeman rotate the squad, or play our strongest XI?

Got to go for it here, forget about the Citteh game and put your best side out.

Far better chance of wining this than the league.

I think Koeman needs to field the strongest side since we haven't settled on a side nor formation, as evident by the formation change at HT against Stoke. The strongest team needs more time to gel.

We're going to be fucked - 4 games in 11 days, including a trip to Split in between trips to Citteh and Chelski.

Indeed if we qualify against Split - by the end of September we will have played 12 competitive matches...... for any EPL side not qualified for Europe - you will not play 12 matches until the 3rd week of November!

Actually if we are smart.... we could perhaps take on board the following analysis...

To win PL - 38 matches with 12 of those matches against very solid (generally much better opposition)
To win FAC - 7 matches - pot luck with banana skins thrown in .....
To win League Cup - 6 matches (2 leg semi) similar banana skins but the bigger boys less likely to focus on it...
To win UEL - 17 matches - only 1 PL side opposition - with perhaps 4 legs against much stronger opposition but with Home/Away aggregate to potentially mitigate

Should we prioritise the latter two?

its too early in the season to be fucked from playing a game every three days, it will be like a team bonding exercise, where doris will complain that she can't build a garden bridge over the thames cos of her lumbago, and wayne will also get out of it by saying he's got flat feet, and the two of them will go for a quick fumble in the undergrowth, and Doris will come out wearing Wayne's wig and it will be hilarious

Have you brought some unusual tea back from your travels?

On an unrelated subject Bournemouth?

No unusual substances, just knackered, got home on Saturday night after a 29 hour journey with no sleep, then went out for a charity walk first thing on Sunday morning, then was in work today - my mind has frazzled!

Good idea on the other matter. I'll check a few things and come back to you this week.

Thinking of the away leg... given I am going to City (I am a guest in the Tunnel Club lounge opening) then flying to NYC early on Tuesday morning and returning Wednesday night so I can fly to Zagreb on Thursday morning to drive over to Split Thursday afternoon - looks like I have too big an ask!!!

Is the match being televised at All? Trying to work out if I can watch it, or if I need to invest in the Wi Fi here.

Was trying to find this out earlier. Doesn't appear to be on ITV4 like the previous games Sad

Bet365 are streaming the match, which may involve opening an account with them and depositing £10, but sounds like streaming the match is free, unless you withdraw your £10

Travelled through Split about 10 years ago. Lovely town by the coast. Stadium is classic 90's type athletics stadium. Travelling fans should enjoy themselves.

Can I deposit £10, watch the game, and then withdraw my tenner?
